Participation and Discretion

Yoga: Benefits and Risks

Yoga is a practice involving gentle exercises that promote bodily and mental control. It combines physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation. Documented benefits include:

  • Reduced stress, anxiety, and depression
  • Improved resilience and general well-being
  • Support for healthy habits and weight management

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends exercise, including yoga, for various physical and mental health conditions, including menopausal symptoms.

Important: This is not “Yoga Therapy.” Yoga is not a formal treatment for physical or mental health conditions and should not replace medical diagnosis or treatment.

While every effort will be made to ensure your safety and comfort, all physical activity carries a risk of injury. If you experience pain or discomfort, stop immediately and consult Dr. Megan Stevens.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): Benefits and Risks

MBSR has been shown to help manage physical and mental health challenges by enhancing:

  • Awareness
  • Concentration
  • Self-reflection

These improvements can support better coping with stress, psychological symptoms, and pain.

Note: Some individuals may experience heightened emotions such as sadness, anger, fear, or anxiety. This is more likely if you have a history of trauma, abuse, or substance use. Please seek professional support if this occurs.

Nutritional Psychiatry Assessments

If agreed upon, Dr. Megan Stevens can help you incorporate essential nutrients into your diet to support brain function and a healthier lifestyle. While emerging studies suggest potential benefits, most research is correlational.

Disclaimer: Nutritional changes are not guaranteed to improve mental health or prevent relapse. This service is not suitable for individuals with a history of eating disorders.

You are responsible for informing Dr. Megan Stevens of any food allergies or intolerances before beginning sessions. You accept full responsibility for ensuring the safety of any food you consume.
